Senior Marta Przybylowska Wins the Con Ed Athlete of the Week Award

On September 29, 2023, Hen Hud’s Marta Przybylowska was awarded the Con Edison Athlete of the Week Award for maintaining a GPA of at least 3.5 and showing outstanding leadership as an athlete.

“This award was very unreal to receive as it is not very common. To me, it lets me remember that I have the ability to be a well rounded person, on the court and in school…the Con Ed Board saw the effort and time I put into my athletics, my academics, and my community” said Marta.

Marta discovered her passion for volleyball early on, beginning in Elementary School. “I always signed up for the Town of Cortlandt clinics, and when I was old enough to play Modified [Volleyball], I decided this was a sport I wanted to continue through all of high school.”

In 8th grade, Marta joined the JV volleyball team. She found that as she continued to work, her skillset and playing improved. “…my technique and volleyball IQ  got better and all my coaches saw some potential in me.”

Through middle school into high school, Marta continued to stand out in her capabilities. In her sophomore year, she was the State Runner-Up in the New York State High School Volleyball Championship, an especially prestigious award for someone so early in their high school career.

Marta’s success continued into her junior year as Hen Hud’s volleyball team won the NYSPHSAA Girls’ Volleyball Championship, the highest level competition for high school volleyball in the state. This victory enshrined both Marta and Hen Hud’s name in the history books for high school athletics.

Despite her decorated volleyball career thus far, Marta’s journey has not been without setbacks. “My sophomore year, after being the NYS Runner Up, I almost tore my lateral meniscus, which would’ve ended my volleyball career…I found out that I had patellar instability, where my kneecaps move out of their groove and are out of place.” Marta’s injury required four months of physical therapy and prevented her from playing volleyball for two months.

Marta credits much of her success to her peer mentor, Amaya Davis (Class of 2023,)  a fellow winner of the Con Edison Athlete of the Week Award for the week of September 16th, 2022.

“She could tell that at a young age, I had some potential in me, and never gave up on me…she was such a talented player but an even better person. This year, playing without her, I want to become even just part of the person and player she was.”

Marta also credits her coaches and Hen Hud’s athletic staff for her accomplishments. “Their dedication to making me a better player kept me playing the sport for Hen Hud.”
