Judgment Against Alex Jones
Conservative conspiracy theorist Alex Jones was ordered to pay $965 Million for defamation to the families of the Sandy Hook Massacre victims.
In December 2012, 20 first graders and six adults were shot dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Hours after the massacre, Jones began spreading conspiracy theories via Infowars, claiming the shooting was a hoax intended to prompt anti-gun legislation. He elaborated that the parents of the young victims were lying, prompting harassment towards the mourning parents. Jones’ followers went as far as threatening to dig up their children’s bodies to prove their claims.
For years, the parents pleaded with Jones to stop his campaign to no avail. 15 of the victim’s parents have since banded together and sued Jones for damages in reference to emotional distress and harassment. Despite winning their case, it is unknown how Mr. Jones will address the order, with much speculation of potential bankruptcy claims.
