Fall is here, and the Hudson Valley has countless events to offer its residents in an array of interests. Check out the list below for recommendations of how to spend the season.
The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze: The renowned Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze returns this fall to the Hudson Valley. One of the largest, most intricate attractions in the area, the Blaze sees hundreds of visitors and 7,000 pumpkins in its displays. A must see event for any Hudson Valley resident, or even neighboring individuals looking to indulge in the Halloween spirit.
Halloween Dog Parade: Saturday, October 26th provides a pre-Halloween treat for dog lovers: the Halloween Dog Parade! Dog owners from around the area gather their dogs – in costume, of course – at Cortlandt Dog Park. The free event, taking place from 2:30-3:30PM, is the perfect, quick and easy activity for families, especially those with small children who love dogs.
Rocky Horror Picture Show at The Paramount: On Halloween night, visit Peekskill’s Paramount Theater to watch the epic cult classic Rocky Horror Picture Show. Currently played by the “Apoca-Lips Shadow Cast,” the show follows sweethearts Brad and Janet who, after becoming stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter.
Boscobel House and Gardens: Located in Cold Spring, Boscobel House and Gardens is a hidden gem of the Hudson Valley. The mansion, originally built in the 1840s, was demolished and rebuilt in its current location, which overlooks Constitution Marsh and offers incredible views of the river and U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Tours of the mansion are available, along with the use of the grounds for picnics. On Saturday mornings, Boscobel hosts the Cold Spring Farmers Market from 8AM-12PM.
Yorktown Stage’s Performance of Mary Poppins: From November 16th to December 1st, Yorktown Stage is producing Disney’s Mary Poppins with a professional cast. The show runs most Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays; visit Yorktown Stage’s website for all times.
Wilkens Farm Pumpkin Picking & Corn Maze: No fall is complete without pumpkin picking, and at Wilkens, enjoy not only the pumpkins but the corn maze, bakery, and farmers market. The cozy orchard is open Wednesday through Monday through late December.
