It wasn’t a long time until October Baseball was going to appear on the calendar again. Twelve determined teams are competing, with one team taking home the World Series trophy. Last year the Yankees and the Dodgers faced off in the 2024 World Series, with the Dodgers winning the series in just five games, four to one. Now, it’s a whole different postseason picture, with new teams joining the Playoffs of 2025 and other teams still vouching for a postseason spot. The race to the playoffs is close, with unexpected twists and turns of team rankings and placements.
A few examples of team ranks changing is when The New York Yankees had a five game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays during the end of May, 2025. The Blue Jays now lead the Yankees five games towards the end of the season. Another example is when the Chicago Cubs had a six game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers but now stay behind the Brewers five games back from their placement in the standings, which is another example of rank changes and how quick they can change.
Now with all this stated, the new teams that are most likely to enter the Playoffs that didn’t last year are the Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners, Boston Red Sox, and The Chicago Cubs. Other teams such as the Arizona Diamondbacks, Cincinnati Reds, San Francisco Giants, Cleveland Guardians, and the Texas Rangers are still trying to vouch for a postseason spot. The Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres, New York Mets, and Previous World Series Champions (Los Angeles Dodgers) are the MLB teams that had fought for a World Series trophy back in 2024 (also included in the 2025 postseason).
It’s not just about the teams, it’s about the players as well. Players featured in the 2025 Postseason are Juan Soto, Tarik Skubal, Aaron Judge, Cal Raleigh, Kyle Schwarber, Shohei Ohtani, Fernando Tatis Jr, Vladimir Guerrero Jr, Bryce Harper, just to name a few. Although the pitching staff in the Postseason looks to be heavy with a bundle of star pitchers, the offensive side looks to be just as challenging and fearless as they can be.
Information about the playoffs is that there can only be 12 teams that can make the cut. There are six teams in the American League along with six teams in the National League. The playoffs are scheduled to start on Tuesday, September 30th, with the
time TBD. eight out of the twelve teams play in the Wild Card series that day (Series of 3). The regular MLB season ends on September 28, 2025. Lastly, this is what the Postseason bracket looks like as of September 16, 2025 down below.
