Each week, the staff here at The Anchor give their recommendations on an album, book and movie to enjoy. Here are our recommendations for the week of 9/7 – 9/13.
Album (Cailyn R.): Hypnotize by System Of A Down (2005)
Hypnotize by the Armenian band System Of A Down is a Nu Metal album from 2005. The band is known for their heavy music along with their political messages. Hypnotize features a mix of noisy metal tracks, such as “Attack” and “Vicinity of Obscenity”, and more lyrical tracks such as “Lonely Day” and “Hypnotize”. This album encapsulates a multitude of feelings, going from anger, to sadness and despair. It shows an experimental era of music, as the band was experimenting with different styles. The album takes you through a musical journey that is unforgettable. The band stands out as one of the most influential of the 1990s and 2000s, and are still popular today.
Book (Noah E.): Prisoners of Geography by Tim Marshall (2016)
Prisoners of Geography: This book, written in 2016 by Tim Marshall is an expansive look across the world into how geography shapes our modern day politics. Despite coming almost a decade ago this book gives insight into many modern day issues and conflicts like the Russo-Ukrainian war, and the ongoing conflict in Israel/Palestine. Marshall also gives many predictions into our future that have yet to happen. It is well written and a very interesting read.
Movie (Lexi C): Rocky IV directed by Sylvester Stallone (1985)
In the 1985 Sport/Drama film, viewers watch as the beloved Rocky Balboa coaches his former opponent and good friend Apollo Creed as he is put in the rink with one of the strongest fighters in the world. All the way from Russia Ivan Drago comes to fight Creed. Not only does Drago defeat Creed, he kills him in the rink. Now it is Balboa’s turn to face Drago, at this point the Russian seems undefeatable. Not even Balboa’s wife Adrian believes he can win against Drago. All in all, this film will put you at the edge of your seat, give you a sense of pride, and the feeling of victory.
