Weekly Sports Update: 5/1-5/7

Monday, April 24 – Sunday, April 30 

Tennis 

Last week on Monday, Boys Tennis won 4-3 in a comeback against Yorktown. Bixby Piccolo-Hill played the winning match with a score of 8-6. Thomas Gatto, Preston Goodale, Anderson Rench, David Gougelmann and Jack Grogan all won their tennis matches. JV Tennis also won against Yorktown. Dylan Spiro and Gabe Sotomayor won singles matches. Xair Lesense & Musa Abdallah and George Wright & Luke Conticello won doubles matches.

Softball

#1 and #20 of Hen Hud’s Varsity Softball team after beating Nanuet in a 10-2 sweep.

Softball won on Monday against Nanuet with a score of 10-2. Emma Morley ran two doubles, and JaNae Walker ran a double and a triple. Emma Barbelet pitched the whole winning game. Softball won again on Wednesday in an 11-0 shutout against Lakeland. Valerie Stratton, pitcher, threw 5 strikeouts, securing the win. Emma Morley went 2 for 4 in runs, and assisted with 4 RBIs (runs batted in).

Baseball

Hen Hud’s Baseball team had their first win of the week with a score of 4-1 against John Jay Cross River. Max Lipton and Michael Gagliardi both pitched well this game, with Gagliardi striking out 5 of the 6 batters put against him. RBIs were seen from Tyler Muranka, Aidan Lawless, Connor Harbolic, and Max Lipton.

Golf

This week, Hen Hud’s Golf team beat Haldane. Nathan Schaffer and Mark Libonati led the team to the win with the lowest scores.

Lacrosse

On Wednesday Boys Lacrosse won 11-4 over Brewster. Dean Hiltsley scored 4 goals with 2 assists. Dylan Lennox and Logan Moore both scored 2 goals. Joey Connolly, goalie, secured the win with 13 saves. Girls Lacrosse won 12-2 over Mahopac this past Saturday. Leading in goals, 6, was Paige Montgomery, followed by Kayla McCarthy who scored 2 goals. Goalies Maddy Porter and Addy Flinchbaugh collectively saved 10 shots on goal. Boys Lacrosse also had a win this past weekend, crushing Byram Hills 11-6. James McManus led in goals with 4, paired with an assist. Dean Hiltsley and Thomas Popolizio scored three goals each, with Dean having 4 assists, and Thomas having 2. Joey Connolly has 15 saves as goalie.

 

Track & Field

Track & Field has great performances on Day 1 of their League Championship on Monday. Alex Wong won the Long Jump event, Karli Martin won Shot Put, Morgan Davis won Long Jump, and Chloe Howard won the Walk. Rhylee Adviento, Sasha Villeda, Ava Schembari, and Hannah Quigley all won in the 3200m Relay. Day 2 of the League Championship saw many more victories. All the following winners won All League: Rhylee Adviento (4×400 Relay), Sasha Davis (4×400 Relay), Ava Schembari (4×400 Relay), Lindsay Tellez (4×400 Relay), Anthony Ciampi (4×100 Relay), Michael Pio (4×100 Relay), Daniel Basini (4×100 Relay), Brandon Sumpter (4×100 Relay), Brendan Chen (Pentathlon), Brandon Sumpter (Discus), Kieran Muller (Hammer), Izzy Andrade (Javelin), Ryan Lee (Pole Vault), Morgan Davis (Triple Jump), and Karli Martin (Discus, Javelin and Hammer). Karli broke another school record for the Hammer, one set back in 2011. The girls beat Ardsley 162-148, and the boys beat them 119-113, making the Sailors League Champions in Track & Field.

 

Unified Basketball

The team had their first game of the season Last Friday away at John Jay Cross River. The game ended in a 48-all tie. Baskets were made by Diego Castro, Andrew Fadella, Jolie Regan, Kaitlyn Bartholomew and Journey Brabham. Patrick Gettler, CT Townsend and Marta Przybylowska played well on defense.

Monday starts off with a plethora of home games for Sailors to attend. Starting off, Varsity Baseball has a non-league home game against Rye at 4:30. Varsity Softball also has a non-league home game, this time against John Jay Cross River at 6:30. Unified Basketball is having a Varsity Game at home against Pelham Memorial High at 4:30. Varsity Boys Tennis has matches at home against Somers at 4:45. Varsity Girls Lacrosse plays Brewster at home at 5pm.

Tuesday holds plenty of away games for all sports. Varsity Boys Golf is away at Hollow Brook Golf Club against Lakeland/Panas at 3:30. JV Boys Tennis is also away at New Rochelle at 4:15. Varsity Baseball plays away at John Jay Cross River at 4:30. Varsity Boys Lacrosse has a non-league game also against John Jay Cross River, this time at home at 5pm.

Wednesday sees just one game, so come out to watch! Varsity Girls Lacrosse plays a non-league home game against North Rockland at 4:30.

On Thursday, JV Boys Tennis plays home against Fox Lane at 4:15. Varsity Baseball plays Somers this day, home at Sunset Park at 5. Varsity Softball plays Lakeland, away at 4:30. JV plays shortly after at 4:45. Varsity Boys Lacrosse plays away at Tappan Zee at 6pm. 

On Friday, Varsity Boys Tennis starts off the day away at Disbrow Park against Rye at 4:15. Varsity Baseball has a non-league game at 4:30, away at Somers. Varsity Girls Lacrosse plays Lakeland/Panas at Walter Panas. The game starts at 4:30 and is followed by the JV team at 6pm. JV Softball plays a non-league home game at FGL against Yonkers at 4:30.

Saturday wraps up the week with a few games. JV Baseball plays Somers, home at Sunset Park at 11 am. Varsity Baseball also has a game at Sunset. It’s a non-league game at Sunset Park at 3. Another 3 pm game is played away at Ossining by the Varsity Boys Lacrosse team.
